About Me

I am not a writer nor am I any kind of expert on cancer. I am just a guy that had cancer and believes he should return the favor for all the support I received when and where I can.

  1. Mike,

I am staying at Karen & Roy’s Bed & Breakfast and I am a cancer survivor. I had colorectal cancer in April and I am currently going thru Chemo. My wife, Dona and I are up here in New York helping our son clean his apartment for college (SUNY) and we always stay at Karen’s.

I am writing because like you, I do see a shining light in the diagnosis of cancer and like you, I am not a writer. I have to go since Karen just put breakfast out and I am starved so I will visit your blog from home. I just wanted to say Hi and let you know that there are many people out here that appreciate “the words” of web pages such as yours. Have a good day. My home e-mail address is above.

  2. Mike I am just like you in West Virginia I too had 2 cancers as a child. i want to ask how you did the Skype conference through webcam if so and if you think it would work in rural areas.

    • I like Skype and I think you should give it a try. It is easy to install too. You can talk to one other person with the video which I really like. Then you can have (i think00 up to 25 people without the video at the same time. It isn’t perfect but it works pretty good. My Skype support group fell apart after a while but for the time it was going I think it was helpful all.
I am doing better, I work full time. Went down to TN and got myself pulled up to 4000 feet and hung glided down, most fun I have ever had.
As you know cancer sucks but it is what it is and we just need to move forward the best we can.
I hope you are doing the best you can.
      Mike

    • i am sorry this took so long. I am still standing, still have a job and go to work everyday. During the first part of this year when you asked the question I was in the middle of a company re-org and trying to figure out if I still had a job. I just stopped thinking about anything outside of looking at work. The I got the good word I had a job but from that point on I have been pounded with work.

Skype is not perfect but you can and I did hold conference calls (no video) with several persons at a time. You can do one on one with the video. I think there are more options out there now such as Apple has an Ipad to Ipad “face time”. I don’t have an Ipad yet but I will once the Ipad 3 comes out. I bought the Ipad 2 for my 84 year old mother and, well it is very, very fun and cool.

As for the rural area I think it would and Skype is free so there is no risk really that I can think of.

I hope you are doing great!

Have the very best day ever!
      Mike
